Recently I took my children to an amusement park and one of them decided to go on an airplane ride. While the ride was running, my daughter looked confused and unhappy because the other kids' airplanes were going up and down, but hers remained on the ground. It made me feel like I was being cheated since my kid was not going up and down.
My daughter wanted to try again, so jumped right back in line and waited again for her turn to ride. She must have thought if she could just pick another airplane everything would be okay. She ran to a different plane, strapped herself in and prepared for the ride of her life.
To her (and my) surprise, the different airplane did the exact the same thing, staying on the ground while others were bounding up and down. Before the ride was over it finally hit me: the wheel! The wheel in front of her controlled the height of the airplane. Pull the wheel and the plane goes higher, push it and it goes back to the ground. I tried to tell my daugher this as she was riding, but the ride ended before she could understand me.
Next time, though, she flew like a champ!
I think there are some lessons to be learned from this simple experience. Particularly for those of us in network marketing. In our industry, sometimes we treat a new opportunity like an airplane. We get inside and we're ready to take off, swirling and flying up and down through the sky. Then a few months go by and we discover our plane is stuck on the ground. We look around, unhappy, trying to blame someone or something for our lack of success. Then the thought comes: "If I could only switch planes everything will take off and be different." But we forget that no plane will fly if we don't grab the weel and pull. In other words, no success will come without effort.

I had another thought while watching my daughter struggle with her airplane: If something is not working, ask an expert. While it's true you can learn through trial and error, it's often costly and time-consuming.
